Congresswoman, Commissioners Promote Hiring at Regional Job Fair

Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, in conjunction with the Board of Lucas County Commissioners and The Source Northwest Ohio, will be hosting Jobs & Career Fair 2011 on Monday, October 17 at the SeaGate Convention Centre in Downtown Toledo.

"We're honored to be working with the Congresswoman's office on providing this Jobs Fair to the citizens of Northwest Ohio." Commissioner Gerken said. "It's in times like these when folks have greater need for services while cuts are being made left and right. We're thankful to be able to help our constituents find good jobs."

Prior to the event, the Commissioners, Representative Kaptur and local business leaders will be meeting with U.S. Deputy Labor Secretary Seth Harris to discuss jobs in Ohio and the American Jobs Act.  A press conference regarding this roundtable conversation will be held at 11 AM in conjunction with the start of the job fair.

The event which will run from 11 AM to 4 PM will feature some of the region’s top employers including Chrysler Jeep, Pilkington, Hollywood Casino, Libbey Glass, Mercy Health System, First Solar, Materion (formerly Brush-Wellman), TRW Automotive, 5/3rd Bank, Maritz Research, TARTA, and Betco.

"Getting Northwest Ohioans back to work is critical for economic growth in this region" said Commissioner Tina Skeldon Wozniak. "The Jobs & Career Fair gives job seekers the opportunity to meet with the potential employers and gain invaluable job skills."

“Job creation and retention is vital to the people of Northwest Ohio,” Commissioner Carol Contrada added. “This Jobs and Career Fair is a great opportunity to bring job seekers and employers together, and represents a combined effort by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and Lucas County government to move our local economy forward.  I applaud the work of the staff at the Source in putting the event together.”

Job seekers are encouraged to dress to impress, be prepared to interview and have plenty of resumes to share with potential employers.  The event is free and open to the public.
